Hi
Are interesting Caves only in the Gold Country area?
I know there are winery caves in Napa valley, and the Crystal Cave in Seqouia/King Canyon area.
Any others in central CA?
Considering an inland alternative to Big Sur.
Sequoia and Kings Canyon is high on the list but it is 3-4 hours or more side trip from LA and onward to San Fran.
There also would be alot of long driving to get from Seqouia to King Canyon %26amp; back, IF I can secure lodging in Visalia area.
Since we are also doing Grand Teton and Yellowstone WY, and whitewater rafting in Idaho, am looking for something different from hiking in the woods.
Thinking my teen will achieve only so much entertainment from tall trees. :)
Gold country strikes me as very touristy and we manage to avoid that mostly.
Also seems WAAAAAAAY out of way from LA-San Fran route.
Would an overnight suffice?
Any suggestions appreciated. ~ TINA
CAVES between LA %26amp; San Fran? Or how far to overnight?
This website might help for cave locations.

Besides the caves listed at the link just posted, I%26#39;ll add a couple of others.
Pinnacles National Monument has 2 small cave areas, Bear Gulch and Balconies. These do not have guided tours, you explore on your own. Bear Bulch is closed from mid-May to mid-July to allow the bat colony undisturbed breeding time.

Pinnacles is located between Highway 101 and I-5 south of Hollister. Best access to the Bear Gulch caves is via Highway 25 from Hollister while probably the best way to Balconies is via the very narrow and winding Highway 146.
