Frustrated travel planner

I have already posted a few times and I thank everyone for their suggestions. We are planning a trip from San Fran to LA with our family in August. We have all the hotels except for the Santa Monica area. We wanted Santa Monica for our two daughters aged 17 and 11, so that we could do the beach things as well as sightseeing in Hollywood and Rodeo Drive. THe problem is that our family requires either two standard hotel rooms adjoining or next to each other or a suite accommodation with a bedroom with two double/queen beds and a sofa bed in a separate living area, or a two bedroom unit. I have found that this will cost up to $1000.00 (two rooms) per night and we are not wanting to budget that much money for two nights in Santa Monica. Before I move to a different spot, does anyone have any suggestions for us? Thanks again to everyone who has submitted ideas for our trip.

Have you tried the Seashore Motel?

We have booked a king room %26amp; a twin room for under $300 per night for both rooms.

Sorry, but no. Not only is it too late to look for accommodation in Santa Monica during the busiest month of the year, but the rates in SM are double that of everywhere else, even in low season. I imagine you have looked into every hotel in Santa Monica that are near the beach? There are so few.

The above suggestion is good, with notice, but they%26#39;ve been booked for August for months now.

You can check to see if there%26#39;s any private apartments/condos available for rent on vrbo.com.

Do the rooms have to be next to one another? When you book online (your least expensive option) there is no provision for making the rooms next to one another. Consider checking online rates and then calling a hotel to see if they will ';set aside'; adjacent rooms for you once you make your ';less expensive'; on line reservation (or maybe they will make the reservation over the phone and match the online rate). Or, lastly, maybe you%26#39;ll have to pay a little more for this arrangement by booking over the phone with the hotel.

What dates are you looking for?

What is the max you can spend?

Try the Residence Inn near Manhattan Beach. Just a couple of miles from a great beach area....and maybe 15-20 mins drive up to Santa Monica.

You could book suites at the Orchid or Celebrity hotel in Hollywood and make a daytrip to Santa Monica(30/40 minute trip one way) That way you can walk to major attractions in Hollywood, or drive a couple of minutes to Beverly Hills/Bel Air e.t.c. It%26#39;s an alternative that would save you some $ you can spent on something else

I would bet that those hotels are booked solid in August, Alex.

Hello belmarOntario

I have just booked my son and my nephew into a ';Queen Queen'; room at The Georgian Hotel. This means two Queen beds in the one room. Cost is around US$275 per night, plus taxes (don%26#39;t know how much for taxes though - haven%26#39;t asked!). While my 20yo son and 19yo nephew are happy to share a room, don%26#39;t think they want to share a bed! I thought the cost for a room in Santa Monica, on the Esplanade to be quite reasonable, by Australian standards. Arlene on the Reservations desk has been responding to my emails and has been fabulous!

The Georgian Hotel%26#39;s ';Queen Queen'; room also has provision for a rollout bed at an extra $30 or so per night. By the way, when I booked the room for 2 nights in July, according to the online reservations for this hotel, the Queen Queen rooms were fully booked, but when I checked direct via email with reservations desk, there was indeed a room available. So it may pay check direct with the hotel. Best of luck. Cheers.
