Hi all...General concern about the wildfires. We’re arriving in Tahoe July 12, and will be staying a week. Tahoe seems pretty unaffected, so I’m sure we’ll be fine. Right now we have plans to head out to the northern Cal coast and southern Oregon during the second week: Ferndale, Klamath, Langlois, Ashland , McCloud/Mt. Shasta, and back to Reno. It’s our first trip out that way, and we’re wondering what the air conditions are right now with all the wildfires. We were so excited to see the big Reds, Ave of the giants, etc. We’ve been following the news on TV, and it looks pretty devastating. Our hearts really go out to everyone there. It makes us wonder if we should choose a new itinerary that second week? Maybe head to the Yosemite area, or stay in Tahoe? I know it’s impossible to judge what conditions will be like in a few weeks, but any advice you can give is much appreciated!
Northern Cal still a go?? (Fires)
Other folks will have much more info than I about the current fire situation, but in reading your post, I was struck by two place-names: Klamath and Langlois. Are you thinking of staying in those towns? Langlois isn%26#39;t really a ';town';, and Klamath has very limited services.
Northern Cal still a go?? (Fires)
Hi there...yep - we%26#39;ll be staying at B%26amp;Bs in both, but only for overnight stays on our road trip. I know they%26#39;re both very limited as far as ';towns'; go. Klamath is a bit remote, which is fine in good conditions, but possibly not under the current circumstancs. That%26#39;s partly why I%26#39;m checking in. Not sure how enjoyable the drive will be at this point. Both B%26amp;Bs offer great scenic spots, and are usually excellent for wildlife viewing, but now...?
Air quality in the northern Sacramento valley has been improving in the last couple days. The road closures on Hwy 36W and 299W have both been lifted. You%26#39;re right, you can%26#39;t predict what will happen in the next two weeks. We could have another lightning storm. However, it does appear that the fire fighters are getting the upper hand on the current fires in this area.
Thanks, treebud! I%26#39;m glad it seems to be a little more under control - for now anyway. I appreciate the input. Getting info from someone in the area is very helpful.
To my knowledge, there are no fires burning in Oregon at the present time, (and certainly none on the coast) so I am confused by your statements.

Hi half-Brit,
Were you referring to my Tahoe post? I know Oregon isn%26#39;t affected right now (thankfully!). My concern really is driving from Tahoe to the Humboldt state park area, and then through that area up into southern Oregon. Sorry if I wasn%26#39;t clear. We%26#39;re just unfamiliar with the roads in that area and I wasn%26#39;t sure if there were any closures or evacuations that would affect us.
All the media reports have made it sound like Humboldt was pretty badly affected, esp with air quality. I do realize the media loves to sensationalize, though. I must sound overly cautious!
