1st timer needs help

Two questions: First, we ar on a tasting budget and tryingto pick one winery that is worth doing the whole tasting/tour/food pairing. Del Dotto has gotten manygood reviews, but what would be the first choice?

#2 Help in St. Helena as there seems to be many good wineries to visit. I have too many and need to narrow it down to 3 or 4(Casa Nuestra, Merryvale, St. Clement, Milat, Louis Martini, Raymond, Conn Creek, and V. Sattui) Thanks!!!!

You may want to substitute V. Sattui for Freemark Abbey, a pretty boutique winery with award-winning wines! :)

FYI- Del Dotto does not do food. However, I did a food wine pairing at Sinskey that we really enjoyed.

In St Helena I%26#39;d do Merryvale, Nuestra, and skip V Sattui.

If you%26#39;re on a serious budget, you can visit the Napa Valley, go to LOTs of wineries, and not pay a SINGLE TASTING FEE.

Have you read TripAdvisor%26#39;s Napa FAQs? Lots of info on where to stay to get free tasting coupons, and which wineries offer comp tastings without coupons.

Here%26#39;s the link to the FAQs:

';What is your #1 choice for a winery to visit?'; is THE question on these forums (its posted more than 100 times each year!).

Thing is, there are more than 300 licensed wineries in the Napa Valley, so it%26#39;s flat out impossible to recommend just one, or even 20!

Best to narrow it down to a few places that offer items of personal interest-- views, tours, specific varietals-- think about what you like, and then search (or ask) using those criteria. This makes the process much easier.

Have a wonderful trip! :)

Thank you for your help. I think we are going to add in Schramsberg, Jarvis, O%26#39;Brien and not go to Del Dotto. For some of the others we are thinking goosecross, stony hill, peju, and milat.

We are also going to try to go to Hess, Artesa, Domaine Carneros, Robert Sinskey, Hagafen, Sterling, and Clos Pegase.

This is overwhelming but all the help is good...

Peju is a nice choice, they do a great summer white wine called ';Carnival'; that we purchased. Artesa and Domaine Carneros are also fantastic choices. Cheers! :)

And Peju has the ';rapping yodeler';.

I believe his name is Andy? He%26#39;s a trip and Peju%26#39;s wines are pretty tasty (we belong to club)

Peju sounds fun! So we have decided to do the barrel tasting at Jarvis and trying to decide whether to also go on the Schramsberg tasting/tour or do a couple more of the smaller wineries and put the money towards dinner at Cyrus..any thoughts?

I believe Schramsberg has a tasting room now so you could just stop there and try it. However, its pretty far north so get a feel for the lay of the land before you starting picking wineries at random.

Also, Cyrus is in Healdsburg are you sure yuo want to drive there from Napa?

we are staying in healdsburg that night, so we were going to do Schramsberg and some in calistoga before heading over. I am just trying to decide if it worth $35 to do the tour there..i know there sparking wines are famous and the tour is supposed to be great, but it seems pricey...
