residence inn maingate vs disney hotel

Hi there,

We will be at Disney for two nights (July 5 and July 6) with two little ones 3.5 and 1.5 years. I have been looking at the Residence Inn because of the suite layout allowing us to stay up after the little ones fall asleep but am wondering if the convenience of a Disney hotel is worth the money.

I think the Grand Californian is out of our price range so we would be looking at the California Hotel or Paradise Pier.

Yes, I know this is last minute but all properties have availability.

Thanks for the input.

If you like all things Disney; if you want total immersion in all things Disney, then yes, staying at a Disney property is ';worth it';. If you are comparing rooms only, then it is not ';worth it';. So, you see, we can%26#39;t tell you if it is ';worth it';. That%26#39;s something you will have to decide based on what you want and what your likes and dislikes are. Chuck...

Hi Arc1234 (and Chuck!)

Yes it really depends on your expectations for the holiday. I personally dont think paying that much more is worth it for a Disney property, I would rather spend it on other things. I just need a clean and comfy room. But then again, I dont have children- and I can imagine kids would love staying at a disney property!!

Also, there are plenty of close hotels that also have 2 room suites just across the road- Carousel Inn being on option, which is 5 mins walk from Disneyland. Nothing fancy but does the job :)

Have fun!!

Thanks for the input.

Cleanliness is the number one priority. Ease of access is second priority. Both our kids nap and we expect to need to visit where ever we stay at least once during the day for a little rest.

We also need wireless and parking as we will have a rental car.

Thanks again for the help.

Let%26#39;s compare...

Residence Inn Maingate - highly rated here at TA

Extended Stay type of hotel, so large rooms including a living room area and a full kitchen with pots and pans, and a full size refrigerator.

Free Breakfast, selected free suppers, free parking and WiFi.

Complex is laid out similar to a group of Condos.

Plenty of places to eat right across the street at the new Anaheim GardenWalk.

Drawbacks included limited maid service and no room service (though you can order food to be delivered, such as pizza).

Also a lot less in price than a Disney owned hotel.

The Disney owned hotels

Smaller rooms.

Distance is the same or farther than many Motels on Harbor Blvd, but doesn%26#39;t offer a tram or shuttle.

Extra fee in a ';resort fee'; that covers the Self Parking and the Internet.

Hotel does have restaurants on site and room service (though fairly limited late at night).

Mixed reviews here at TA.

To me, you are paying more for less at the 3 Disney owned hotels, so I usually recommend staying off-site, and when I need a hotel room in the area, that is exactly what I do.

I would go with the Residence Inn.

We have done both and for us, staying a place like RI Maingate is a better value.

See my review from our stay there for a 4 day trip to DL.
