Our flight arrives in L.A. at 12:30 p.m. on a Friday. We%26#39;ll need to collect luggage and a rental car. Staying at the Renaissance Hollywood Fri/Sat nights and then moving out to Santa Monica for Sun/Mon nights.
We want to do the Warner Brothers tour (or another studio tour - besides Universal), but think it would be hard to count on doing it at 4 p.m. on Friday if our flight is delayed. But we think it may also be silly to drive back from Santa Monica on Monday. I called WB to see if by chance they had a Saturday tour (website says some weekends in summer) and was told no.
Suggestions? Try it on Friday or wait until Monday, or skip it? We just have no conception of drive times - sorry!
Timing for the WB tour?
I recently arrived at LAX at 12:30 on a weekday, picked up a rental and was in Burbank by 1:45. I got lucky, but I think you could definitely make a 4pm tour since traffic doesn%26#39;t get too bad until after 2pm on Fridays.
After the tour, the drive to the Renaissance can be a nightmare. It%26#39;s only a few miles, but if there is an event at the Hollywood Bowl you might just want to dine in Burbank or Toluca Lake, and wait until 8:30 to head down to Hollywood.
Monday from Santa Monica wouldnt%26#39; be too bad if you could leave at 10am, get an 11:30am tour and head back to Santa Monica by 2:30pm. But, once you%26#39;ve felt those ocean breezes you will probably not want to be venturing back towards Hollywood!
If it were me, I would just plan to head from LAX to the Renaissance on Friday, and if you get there by, say 2:30pm to check in, call WB and see if you can get in for a 4pm tour. Then get moving. If it doesn%26#39;t work out, play it as it goes on Monday. If you feel like the drive, go for it. If you luck out with the traffic it will be little more than 30-35 mins from Santa Monica to Burbank on the freeway.
Timing for the WB tour?
I%26#39;d aim for Friday. If you plane is late, throw you luggage in the trunk and drive from LAX to WB (all freeway driving). Check into your hotel later. I%26#39;d eat in Burbank or Toluca Lake since our Friday afternoon rush hour(s) is pretty miserable.
Good suggestions from both of you - thank you very much. I was going to try to purchase tickets online, but I think your suggestions of waiting %26#39;til that day are better (especially since I also read the AAA discount is not available online). And, worst case scenario is we backtrack a bit on Monday. Appreciate the advice on hanging out to eat and avoiding traffic!
You can reserve on the phone and still use the AAA card. Google their phone number.
