Union SQ hotel with decent bar!!!

I find myself in SF on business on 4th July - alone. I am looking for a good standard hotel around Union Square that has a decent bar in the hotel with a bit ';Craic';. I am late 30%26#39;s and not into places with a throbbing techno beat. Even a decent centrally based Irish bar would be somewhere worth visiting.

I presume that there is going to be plenty happening anyway, but all adviced will be much appreciated.

Try the top of the Marriott Hotel on 4th Street just south of Market St. It has a great view and is not a techno music scene.

Hotel Rex has a bar at ground level - very comfortable and I got a very large top shelf margarita for a great price there. 562 Sutter Street @ Powell/Mason Streets.

adding that you should check out Dave%26#39;s on 29 Third @ Market - sports on TV, bar food; locals go there. nothing pretentious about it. decent jukebox.

I second the nod for The Irish Bank. We went there for a quick drink right before we had to go to the airport, and I practically had to drag my boyfriend out the door. Nice people, good beer. Sounds like you might like it, too.
