Hi
We%26#39;re doing a road trip in California in August. One of the longer distance drives we%26#39;re doing is between Big Sur where and Yosemite (actually staying in Oakhurst). Is there any sights that you would recommend checking out on the way between the two (we prefer natural and scenic stuff in general)?
Many Thanks
Andy
Big Sur to Yosemite - things to see on the way
You should see the redwoods in Big Basin State Park outside of Boulder Creek. In the gold country, you can pan for gold in Columbia. Those are on the top of my head....
Big Sur to Yosemite - things to see on the way
Andy,
Although I loved growing up in the California Central Valley, it really doesn%26#39;t have much to offer in the realm of ';natural and scenic'; department. Mostly you%26#39;ll see California agriculture in action and small towns doing their best to survive.
Assuming that your visit to Big Sur area already includes Monterey, I%26#39;d suggest that you make good time driving directly to Oakhurst. If possible, you can even go into the South Entrance of Yosemite and visit the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias on your first day. How long do you have to enjoy Yosemite?
You%26#39;ll cross the San Andreas faultline. Depending on where you cross, it could be somewhat dramatic looking--like Pinnacles National Monument.
Thanks guys - great tips there!!
So much to see/do in California that its giving me a headache!! ;o) Nice problem to have though.
We%26#39;ll probably head across to Yosemite taking a look at the San Andreas fault on the way. Big Basin and the Pinnacles NP both look very interesting though!! This will probably give us time to spend an afternoon in Maripose Grove before doing the Panorama hike in Yosemite the day after. We%26#39;re staying in Mammoth Lakes the following night so probably won%26#39;t get anymore time in Yosemte.
Thanks again
Andy
