Can anyone recommend a nice kid friendly campground in Santa Cruz?
Camping in Santa Cruz?
I cannot think of any campgrounds in Santa Cruz. There is a KOA south of Santa Cruz in Watsonville, and some places on Hwy 9 in the Felton area.
Were you thinking of RV or tent camping? New Brighton State Park is nice, but they are often booked up months in advance. If you have an RV, the Santa Cruz Yacht Harbor has about 10 places to park and hook-up. It%26#39;s very nice, quiet, close to the beach and playground.
Camping in Santa Cruz?
South of Santa Cruz, Manresa State Beach is nice for camping. In the mountains, I like Big Basin state park. Portola Redwoods state park also has a nice campground. North of Santa Cruz near the town of Pescadero, Butano state park is nice.
For RVs, I agree, New Brighton is excellent. A lot of people like Seacliff beach too, but their spots are all very close together without any trees or anything in between them.
You can camp at the State beaches recommended and at Big Basin Redwoods. I heard a ranger say last week that New Brighton was booked a year ahead, so you really need reservations, and if you are planning on this summer you might be disappointed.
You might try Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park in Felton, which is 7 miles up Highway 9 from Santa Cruz.
