Advice on a few hours in San Francisco

I am arriving at SFO but need to go to OAK to pick up a rental car due to a big price difference. We are on a road trip down the coast of CA but will be in San Francisco for a few hours. What is the best way to get from SFO to OAK. Also, where would be a good place to grab lunch also near good sites. Only will be there for 2 hours so I want to maximize my time. I know I want to see the Golden Gate bridge. Any advice is greatly appreciated!!

Advice on a few hours in San Francisco

According to this website, you can take BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) from SFO to the Oakland airport, with a change at Balboa and a Shuttle from the BART Coliseum stop to the Oakland airport.

If you%26#39;re feeling a bit adventuresome and don%26#39;t mind paying an extra bridge toll, head north from Oakland towards I-80 eastbound (which goes due north at this point, but no matter). Then take the Richmond Bridge across the bay to San Rafael. Follow the signs to southbound Highway 101 and head towards the bay bridge. There is a right exit on southbound 101 just before you get on the GG bridge (don%26#39;t know the name). The road winds up the hill to several turnouts that give you spectacular views of the bridge and the city. This would be a great spot for a picnic (no tables or anything, but the view is great, if the fog doesn%26#39;t roll in).

When you are done soaking up the view, cross the bridge, pay the $5 bridge toll and head south. From the GG bridge, you have several choices of freeways. 19th Avenue will eventually put you on 280 after going through some classic San Francisco residential areas and across Golden Gate Park. From 280 you can get to Highway 1 and go south hugging the water%26#39;s edge. Or you can stay on 280 and have a scenic view of the hills/mountains that ring the Bay Area while missing most of the urban sprawl and traffic. Or you can continue from the GG bridge and take 101 right through the heart of downtown SF, past the Civic Center, the Opera House, across Market Street and eventually back onto the freeway again.

Have a great trip.
