Chances are, it will not be hot. July is right in the middle of fog season here. If we do get a heat wave, it will last maybe 3-4 days, until the fog comes in again. Swimming is not something many locals do naturally, and outdoor pools are rare here. Some of the Union Square hotels have indoor pools. I%26#39;m sure people will have recommendations.
Indeed, Union Square is the shopping meccas for all of Northern California. The typical street-side retailers are around the plaza and the surrounding streets; some of the major stores along the streets are Macy%26#39;s, Saks, Neiman-Marcus, and Barney%26#39;s, with countless smaller specialty shops.
The big Westfield San Francisco Centre is a few blocks away, where you%26#39;ll find Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, and several hundred other shops, also restaurants, a move theatre, and other services.
I doubt anyone could exhaust all the shopping opportunities in downtown S.F. in a month, not even adolescent girls!
If you stay at Union Square, public transit will take you anywhere in the City, and it runs 24/7 in many places. The cable cars run from before 6:00 a.m. to almost 1:00 a.m., to go to Fisherman%26#39;s Wharf, Pier 39, North Beach, and Chinatown.

July - while it is in the 60s-70s, there are warmer areas of the city such as Noe Valley, Mission District, Potrero Hill, for example. The Bay causes the upper half of the city to have a natural ';air conditioner'; and the winds, if not present for the full day, tend to pick up speed in the late afternoon and early evening, but settle down after dinner hours.
Look into staying at the Handlery in Union Square -- central for lots of shopping, livelier at night than at Fisherman%26#39;s Wharf, too; pick up the #30 MUNI on Kearny %26amp; Post streets to get to Fisherman%26#39;s Wharf OR if you want the slower antique trolley to Fisherman%26#39;s Wharf, then pick up the F train on Market Street heading east. Even slower would be the Cable Car on Powell (labeled
';Powell-Mason'; to get to f.wharf for $5/adult) handlery.com/sf/specials/family.asp
so buy a visitor%26#39;s passport for MUNI www.sfmta.com
Holiday Inn Golden Gateway www.goldengatewayhotel.com has a 6th floor outdoor heated pool and sundeck with panoramic views. Contact the hotel to book a suite directly with them Email: Service@GoldenGatewayHotel.com
and I made a ';Go List'; to highlight what is in the area (you can get to Fisherman%26#39;s Wharf right outside the hotel on the #47 MUNI) tripadvisor.com/GoListDetail-i17406-San_Fran…
wow thanks for your help, fantastic!!!
If you are after a central hotel then the Handlery will suit you best.
It is situated just a few steps away from Union Square and cable car and shopping that has already been described for you.
As Frisco Roadrunner has mentioned , it probably will not be hot. The City is hardly EVER hot and has something of a unique climate situation_____like Spring all year round.
This is why very few hotels have a pool but if you want central and value have a look at the Handlery.
beck,
Have a look at Kryslong%26#39;s reply to the ';What to pack'; post and that will give you a good idea of what to expect climate wise.
P.S. I think the Handlery is one of the few downtown hotels that do have an outdoor pool.
