Read the FaQs above, plus let us know what you%26#39;re going to be doing and seeing while in Los Angeles. It%26#39;s a vast, wide city and you want to be centered well for your itinerary. And, will you have a car?
hotels in la?
What is your budget per night? Will you have a car? What did you want to do, while in LA?
LA is huge, it is safe in all tourist areas, but your budget will dictate where you stay. Please read our FAQs at the top of the LA Forums, especially Where to Stay.
';Safe'; is such a random word, if you use commen sense any place would be ';safe';
L.A. is not THAT dangerous of a city, we are all living here day in and out and are able to ';survive'; i guess,lol/.
In any case, we need to know what your inetersts are, what you would like to do/see while here. Most visited areas for hotels by tourists are usually either Hollywood/West Hollywood or Santa Monica . So you should look into those areas, which are btw perfectly safe
You don%26#39;t need to worry about safety. You won%26#39;t be going to Compton for your vacation. This county has 10 million people and is enormous. You%26#39;ll only see a small part of it - the tourist areas which are all very safe.
What you should be more worried about is whether you will be renting a car (recommended, esp. on a vacation with kids), what areas you%26#39;ll be seeing and what you will be doing here so you can pick a hotel that%26#39;s convenient for your interests. Also, we need a budget.

They probably already know what places to stay away from in their home state.
';The tourist areas are all very safe';. Just how does someone driving around for the first time know what the ';tourist areas'; are? Should they just hop off the 110 freeway at any point at 11pm and get some gas???
^ Sure, 99.99999999% of the time they will be fine
They will know where tourist areas are because those are the ones they will visit based on their guidebook and itinerary. Most tourists don%26#39;t even take the 110, so I don%26#39;t know what that%26#39;s about. Most would only need to use small stretches of the 405, 10, and 101.
I don%26#39;t know anyone in their right mind who avoids using gas stations even in Compton if you%26#39;re passing by and are running on zero. And they won%26#39;t be passing any such areas as tourists. Unless you have zero common sense, there is nothing to be worried about.
