What%26#39;s the cheapest way to get from SFO to Union Square? Is there public transport right from the airport?
We plan to use the buses and cable cars to get around while we are there for 3 days - is it best for us to get the $18 passport?
Airport to Union Square
BART operates rapid rail service directly between SFO and San Francisco. The SFO BART Station is located on the Departures/Ticketing Level of the International Terminal (Boarding Area G side). BART is easily accessed from any terminal by riding SFO%26#39;s free AirTrain to the Garage G/BART Station stop.
You can purchase your ticket from an automated vending machine. The price to Union Square is $5.35/adult.
It takes about 30 minutes.
You%26#39;ll want to exit at the Powell Street station (which is Union Square).
Airport to Union Square
From the airport you can use BART(high speed rail) to the Powell Street station where you will exit. Union Square is a few short blocks up Powell from Market Street. fare=$5.35pp on way.(not included with the city Muni pass)
San Francisco is a very walkable city. If you feel that you will be using the buses, muni, and cable cars extensively everyday then purchase the Passport. As an alternative if you think that you will walk some of the days, then consider purchasing the daily pass instead.
Cheers!!
what an original question
Thanks for the info guys. Look out for even more original questions in the near future!
The place we are staying at Pine %26amp; Powell, San Francisco Suites, told us to take shared transportation since the hotel is at the top of a hill from the BART station and managing luggage maybe a hassle. It%26#39;s $15 each way p/p and booked once you arrive in the baggage claim area.
winydapu,
Pine and Powell is not Union Square and yes they are right to suggest shared shuttle service.
Lugging your bags from BART up Powell to Pine would be risking coronary collapse and not a good start to your holiday.
