Condo or house rental over Christmas

We%26#39;re considering an extended family ski vacation in December and are limited by the kids%26#39; school vacation dates. Looking to rent a condo or house that could comfortably house 8 (three of whom are kids). Access to a pool would be a plus, as well as easy ski access.

I know rentals are much more expensive at Christmas time, so am wondering if anyone can recommend something in the $3,000 to $5,000 range for one week?

For that amount I would look into getting a unit at the Marriott Grand which has very nice condos in a resort setting. It’s right next to the Heavenly gondola and right in the middle of shopping and restaurants. They have a pool and Jacuzzis and an on site spa. Here’s a place I have looked into in the past but stayed in another unit as it was not available during our visit:

If you are looking at December holidays, book ASAP. Many people book their favorite accomodations a year in advance.

I agree that Tahoe Luxury Properties is a great place to search. They have such beautiful houses!

I generally use VRBO for my vacation rentals. I do book at least 10 months in advance to secure the best choices.

You can also look at timeshare rentals on redweek.com. Do a search on Lake Tahoe. I agree, the Marriott Grand at the base of Heavenly is a prime luxury location.

You can also search under vacation rentals on craigslist.org. Go to the California forum and look in the SF Bay Area and Sacramento and San Jose areas under the vacation rentals. We have found several Lake Tahoe rental opportunities using this. There are a lot of vacation home owners that live in northern CA that rent using this as well as the previously mentioned vrbo.

Good luck. Be aware you are not guaranteed snow that time of year, though. Regardless it will be beautiful....

We have had the most consistent luck with snow in Feb. Sometimes there is great snow in Dec, sometimes none. Often there is snow into April....but it isn%26#39;t guaranteed. The large ski resorts make their own snow for the upper regions though.

The ski resorts stay open until the 3rd or 4th Sunday in April. Squaw closes later. It would have to be a seriously bad year for snow if they closed earlier than that. Even this year they which wasn%26#39;t a great year for snow had enough snow to have stayed open longer if insurance, and use licenses allowed.
