Hi
We will be on honeymoon in San Fran and haven given ourselves 3 nights to make our way to LA (driving). We plan to leave San Fran on a Friday and fly out of LAX to Mexico on a Monday morning.
I would love some advice on where to stop and what we should do in those 3 days. We plan to drive the ocean road to LA. We will have 3 days in LA when we get back from Mexico so don%26#39;t need to focus on LA itself until then.
Any quirky places to stop or good things to see from San Fran to LA would be a great help.
We have not booked any accommodation yet either for those 3 nights so anybody who has done that drive or has a sample itinerary it would be much appreciated!
Thanks!
Jane
Drive from San Fran to LAIt would help to know when you are planning to do this trip. At present, the most scenic route from SF to LA is closed due to massive wildfires.
Another scenic option is to go via Yosemite - not as direct as Highway 1 but always dramatic. If the trip is far enough off or very, very soon (within a week), you might be able to get a place in Yosemite Valley.
Drive from San Fran to LAHi
This trip is quite far off - leaving San Fran on Fri 17th of Nov and fly out of LAX on Monday 21st of Nov.
Sorry I did not realise about fires?? I hope everyone out there is ok? That is sad to hear
Thanks for advice

Three days is a good chunk of time to do the Hwy 1 coastal route. I%26#39;d say a stop in the Monterey area would be good, go to the aquarium and the Cannery Row area, then down through Big Sur to San Simeon and visit the Hearst Castle. At the time of year you%26#39;re looking to go, you should find decent accommodation easily. Obviously weekdays will give you more flexibility and better pricing. There area number of hotels along the Cannery Row section of town, within walking distance to shops and pubs.

This hotel is situated at San Simeon, near to the castle. The ocean views are fantastic - treat yourself to one of the newer suites right on the cliffs.
The Pismo Beach area is fun, but I would skip over to Hwy 101 from there south to Santa Barbara. http://www.classiccalifornia.com/
The coastal route through that stretch isn%26#39;t all that picturesque. Just off Hwy 101 is the town of Solvang, a quaint town which bills itself as a little bit of Denmark in California.

Santa Barbara is absolutely lovely, and from there you%26#39;re less than a day%26#39;s drive to LA. The Mission Santa Barbara is something to be seen if you%26#39;re a history buff or love old churches. http://www.sbmission.org/home.html
The string of Missions throughout the state are a lovely tribute to the wealth of Spanish influence in California and indeed, much of the west, throughout the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. Here%26#39;s the list for all the missions, if you%26#39;re interested.

Thank you for taking the time for such a comprehensive answer.
I%26#39;ll look into everything!
