I will be driving from SF to LA July 10th over two days. Can anyone recommend a place to stop overnight? My kids (16 %26amp; 12) would like to be on or near the beach. We plan to spend the day in Monterey and Carmel, but thought we should drive closer to the Hearst Castle to stay overnight. Is Hearst Castle worth the stop or will my kids be bored with it. Any help with this trip is appreciated.

The best place to stop near Hearst Castle is Cambria. There are some really nice accomodations along Moonstone Drive overlooing the ocean.
Hearst Castle is very interesting and grand. It%26#39;s one of the most popular State Park attractions in California;even for children. The first ime that I went was when I was 11 and I enjoyed it.
Hopefully the fire in Big Sur will be finished by July 10th.
Enjoy!!

Cambria is a nice suggestion, the inns on Moonstone Beach Drive are across the street from the ocean. We have enjoyed stays at the Fireside Inn, Blue Whale Inn and the Pelican Cove Inn. The Best Western Fireside Inn would be a great choice for a family, they have an outdoor heated swimming pool, jacuzzi and complimentary breakfast there. You can walk to the Moonstone Beach Bar %26amp; Grill for meals and the Sea Chest is nice for dinner.
Enjoy your time on the coast! www.centralcoast.com
Moonstone Drive in Cambria would be an excellent location for a one night stopover. The hotel prices are obviuosly high during the summer months, but deals can be found.
One is the San Simeon Pines resort located on the most northern section of Moonstone Drive

I launched my kayak at Leffingwell Landing last saturday, which is directly across the street from the resort. Guests at the resort looked like they were all having a lot of fun. They have a little chipping golf coarse. I think the resort supplies the clubs and balls because these two teenage kids were pretty bad, but still having fun.
Others were playing shuffleboard, I also witnessed a family playing Crouquet
The resort has direct access to the beach via a path under Leffingwell Bridge and a park across
the street with picnic tables and BBQs. The best spot on all of Moonstone for the sunset.
The resort is a little more rustic than others; however, if you are traveling on a budget and need more activities for teenagers this be one to consider
