parking and a place to stay

I am leaving on a cruise Aug. 15 out of pier 35. I live a couple hours away so it is close enough that I can drive. I would like to get there the 14 and spend the night and park my car for 10 days and get to pier 35 on the 15. Has anyone done this before? Any ideas where to stay? Thanks in advance if you have any thoughts on this.

I would contact the garages at Fisherman%26#39;s Wharf. see visitfishermanswharf.com/gettingaround/parki… and the ones w/phone numbers would be important to give to an emergency contact, if you use one when you travel. Best Western Tuscan Inn is mentioned quite a bit here in the forums as a recommended hotel.

Thank you so much for the info. I just called two of the garages and they are both about $35.00 a day. That is about $350.00. Just for parking that is a bit more than I care to spend. Back to the drawing board. Thanks again!

Contact the Chancellor Hotel in Union Square for your nights stay.

They have a daily parking rate of $22 which is very good for The City.

Hope this helps and have a great cruise.

Where do you live? Does your city have taxi service that will come here?

Or is there a family member or friend who can give you and your luggage a ride? Treat them to dinner at the Wharf as a thank-you, and you%26#39;ll probably still be saving money.

An option may be parking your car at a garage near the airport like Park SFO (http://www.parksfo.com/faqs.html) which has a free shuttle to the airport. It%26#39;s about a 5-10 minute ride. From the airport, you can take a shuttle to your hotel or if you don%26#39;t have too much luggage ride BART into San Francisco. It%26#39;s a little out of the way however, the parking rates are lower. Right now, Park SFO is offering a one day free parking coupon off it%26#39;s site %26amp; daily parking rates of $11.95 (outdoor parking) or $13.95 (indoor parking).

If you are coming from the North, you could park and take the Golden Gate Ferry right to Ferry Building. Here is the parking information:

Parking. Larkspur Ferry Terminal has 1,498 parking spaces available to the public, including 18 carpool spaces. In addition, the lot has 23 spaces for the disabled and 2 spaces for electric vehicles.

Ferry riders can park their cars free in the Larkspur Ferry Terminal parking lot for the first 24 hours. After the first 24 hours, vehicles will be ticketed for each day after up until 7 days, when it will then be towed. The ticket amount is $12 for each day after the first 24 hours for ferry riders and $20 per day for non-ferry riders. We recommend for long term parking that our riders use the Marin Airporter Lot across the street and pay only $4 a day.

If you are coming from the South, you could stay at the El Rancho Inn in Milbrae for the first night. They have a free parking package. You could take their shuttle to the airport, take BART to the Embarcadero Station and a taxi from there. Kind of a lot, but FREE parking. You could park in San Francisco as low as $12/day or so, but it won%26#39;t be easy either. Good luck.

Update: Thank you all for the wonderful helpful ideas.

I checked out all the options and I decided to reserve a room at the La Quinta Inn San Francisco Airport. I got the room for %26amp;129.00. It pays to shop! Their Internet site quoted a price for the room and parking up to fourteen days %26amp;199.00. That is still a good deal but they only have a shuttle to the airport not to the pier. I heard it will cost around $45.00 for a taxi cab to the pier. So for the whole thing I will pay $209.00. That is for a room, parking and a cab to and from the pier. That price even includes a breakfast. I am so glad I can work on the ';what to bring'; part now. THANKS AGAIN!:)

Hey havesomefun! We live in Santa Cruz and going on a cruise in October from SF. I too had the same thoughts as you. We don%26#39;t want to leave the car at the parking garage. We always do a park %26amp; fly when we go out of San Jose and it is so relaxing. Trying to drive HWY 17 in the morning is not.

For our cruise we choose the Radisson at the airport, $189 plus tax. I was not real thrilled with the TA reviews on La Quinta. We plan on hiring a town car to the port. It costs more than a taxi, but I want to start my cruise off on a good note. Also, if the meter is running on the taxi and you get stuck in the cruise traffic, it could be very costly.

Has anyone heard of or used Quicksilver limo service? I was considering them. The woman I spoke with on the phone was very helpful. She suggested the town car to the port and take a taxi back to the hotel to get our car. More cost effective.

Have a great cruise havesomefun!

Thanks! I will check it out tomorrow. I was a little worried about some of the reviews for the la Quinta too. That is a good price you got for your Hotel.Thats parking too? That is also a good idea for the transportation. Just when I thought I had it all figured out you came along with Logic. I had gotten so tired working at it I was about ready to settle for a Motel 6, in Oakland and walk to the pier. No!! Just kidding, but I was getting pretty desperate. Thanks again. I truly appreciate all the ideas.

Havesomefun, please let me know how everything works out for you, we don%26#39;t go until October.

Do you read the Cruise Critic message boards? They have a roll call section where you can chat with people on your sailing. I have made many good friends there, that we still cruise with. They have great packing list ideas too!
