Our family is travelling from San Fran to LA in Aug. We are travelling to Monterey, Pismo Beach, LA area, Disney and then home to Canada. We are thinking of staying in the Santa Monica area for two days but our travel agent booked us in Torrance. My two daughters 17 and 11 won%26#39;t to see Rodeo Drive and Hollywood but also want to be close to the nice beaches. Someone suggested Santa Monica - because we can drive from there to Rodeo Drive and Hollywood. Based on this info, is Santa Monica a good idea or should I also consider Redondo Beach? Your suggestions would be appreciated.
Santa Monica vs. Redondo Beach?
Are you asking about changing hotels? At this late date, if you can find something in either beach area, grab it. Definitely you should change from a hotel in Torrance!!
Santa Monica is much closer to the sights you list than Redondo, by about 30 minutes (by car). However, the hotel rates are quite high, and most likely sold out. If you can find something, take it.
Santa Monica vs. Redondo Beach?
Thanks for your suggestions. Yes, we are usually way more organized but have left finalizing details to very late.
I am currently looking in the Santa Monica sites to see what is available. What about the Doubletree Suites in Santa Monica?
If the price is right for you Santa Monica, hands down
Yeah, Santa Monica is way closer to all the sights you want to probably see while in Los Angeles
The South Bay beaches are beautiful but somewhat removed from the usual LA tourist attractions, which for some is an attraction in itself. It may be difficult to find a nice room on the beach for a reasonable cost at this point, especially in Santa Monica-there are several georgeous beachfront hotels, but most are at least $350 per night and go up from there. A quick spot check for the first week of August on Expedia shows vacancies at over 25 different SM hotels, most of which are within a few blocks of the beach. BTW, the Starline tour operator may be extending their HOHO bus to the SM area this summer, which would give you another option besides driving for visiting Hollywood and Beverly Hills.
I also took a look at expedia.com for Aug (two different weeks) and there isn%26#39;t a hotel (in a decent area) for less than $325/night (plus parking of about $35/night). My guess is that since the OP%26#39;s travel agent placed them in Torrance, price is a factor.
By the way, while there were about 8 hotels that have availability, they did not have availability for several nights in a row, there%26#39;s a night here and a night there. But there%26#39;s nothing in a reasonable, or what would be considered inexpensive, range.
It%26#39;s important to know the OP%26#39;s budget per night.
DoubleTree in SM is fine choice.
