Staying at Hotel Del Coronado, plus things to do??

I am staying at the Hotel Del Coronado June 26-30. I will be tied up in a meeting June 27 and 28. In the eve, what could I do. Anything within walking distance to see or perhaps take a cab to? I love outdoor restaurants with entertainment (live music) with perhaps an ocean view? Any places that are pretty lively? How is the shopping? I am not into historical type of things, so lets leave that out of the picture. Your advice is greatly appreciated!

Staying at Hotel Del Coronado, plus things to do??

There are nice shops and two great restaurants right at the Del, 1500 Ocean is very good and at the Sheerwtaer you will have oceanviews. If you like Mexican food, go across the street to the El Cordova Hotel and dine outdoors at Miguel%26#39;s Cocina. Have fun, the Del is a gorgeous place to spend time. :)

There are great things to see and places to eat right at or near the Del or along the Bay on the Coronado side. Also, its only a brief taxi ride into San Diego to the Gaslamp area for lots of night life, outdoor/sidewalk restaurants, etc.

I agree with FrankJ, If you want ';pretty lively'; I%26#39;d take a taxi or ferry or water taxi(you have to walk or take abus to the water taxi or ferry)across the bay to the gaslamp. See:www.gaslamp.org

';I love outdoor restaurants with entertainment (live music) with perhaps an ocean view?';

As mentioned the Sheerwater is an outdoor restaurant with a great ocean view at the Del. Take a look at their website. The Babcock and Story Lounge is near the Sheerwater, with many tables on the inside, some with ocean views (large panes of glass and a large open door)and some outside. They serve appetizers. It%26#39;s much easier and quicker to get seat in the lounge than in the restaurant, unless you have reservations for the restaurant. Although at this time of year it can be hard to grab a table in the lounge or outside, I have been able to do it by being patient and watching for people who are leaving. It is very likely that there will be music either inside the lounge or outside. If you want to eat at the Sheerwater, when you make reservations ask if there will be music in the evening and then ask for an outside table near the music - because some tables are far away. (You may also want to ask for a table near the fireplace as it can get chilly at night, but in any case it is nice to be near one.) You must specify an outside table when you make your reservations.

The last time I was at the Del (in January) there was a guitar player in the lounge who played soft folk guiter stuff, just the thing to go with the ocean view. In the summer I have often seen (and heard) a guitarist outside who plays something like Latin or Braizlen jazz. He plays at the edge of a walkwalk that leads out to the beach, which is need the outside tables and near the edge of the outside tables for the Sheerwater (also near one of the fireplaces). I think everyone loves hearing this, as I have even seen little kids stopping to listen and sort of dancing.

You may also like to be aware, just in case you have lunch breaks outside of your meeting rooms or at least a chance to get out for a 15 min break, in the day there sometimes is a band playing rock music by the pool (actually above the pool) and that area has outside tables and you should be able to grab something to eat there. Perhaps someone will post with extra information on that, but I think that BBQ hamburgers and hotdogs are served there. This area above the pool also has a view of the beach/ocean.

For more livelier music, besides visiting Gaslamp you may want to visit Humphrey%26#39;s Half Moon for a concert. Humphrey%26#39;s in on a pennisula in the San Diego Bay. In addition to concerts they have music in their restaurant, I believe. I will see what I can find for those dates and post.

It looks like for your travel dates there are only three concerts at Humphrey’s during that time frame. Two of them are Hawaiian, which sound pretty nice and fit in with the area well. By the way, Humphrey’s is on Shelter Island, further away than Gaslamp. So the taxi ride would cost more.

They also have their Backstage Music Club, inside their restaurant, which is less expensive than the outdoor concerts. Here is a description and calendar of upcoming bands.

Just one more post!

There are also free concerts in the park on Coronado. There is one on June 19th. The band is Jump Start and they have a My Space Music page - looks like rock.

This should be within walking distance from the Del, but a pretty far stretch of the legs.

Wow, awesome responses. Thank you!!

Ron%26#39;s Garage Band plays weekend afternoons on the Hotel Del Sundeck. Great spot to kick back with a cocktail, burger or just sit and enjoy the music, sun and oceanview at no charge.

Check out their website for pictures and setlists.

The Sundeck is the area above the pool that I mentioned in my post.
