Furnace Creek vs Stove Pipe Wells

I read that these 2 lodging facilities are about 25 miles from one another, but is there a big difference between them? If you were going to choose to stay in one or the other, how would you choose?

We will be going in late June

Thanks

Furnace Creek vs Stove Pipe Wells

If budget, Stove Pipe Wells.

If want nicer property, Furnace Creek.

Both have nice location in Death Valley area.

Furnace Creek vs Stove Pipe Wells

Haven%26#39;t been there in years, but go for Furnace Creek.

late June ... it will be very hot!

If you want small, rustic, and comfortable, a little more personalized, a view of the mountains or sand dunes from every room, a dining room and saloon in a nice Western theme with actual historic timbers and artifacts, pick Stove Pipe Wells.

If you want bigger, more services but less personalized, more people around, not as much ';Old West'; ambience, less of a view from every room, but close to golf, tennis, the post office, and the park visitor center, pick Furnace Creek.

Both have pools, restaurants, general stores, and gas stations.

My favorite is Stove Pipe Wells for the very reason that it is smaller and less busy. It feels more like ';really being in Death Valley.';

We had a night in Death Valley about a fortnight ago. We stopped at Stovepipe Wells mid morning, and there didn%26#39;t seem a soul to be seen. The only thing that seemed to be open was the general store on the other side. It also seemed so much hotter as it was all bitumen and very little green.

We spent the afternoon and night at Furnace Creek and really loved it. There was quite a lot to do and see there, and it was a short drive to some of the main features such as Badwater and Artists Palette, and they were much better done later in the afternoon.

It can be more expensive than Stovepipe Wells, but I found one other internet site apart from Xanterra that I could book - Otel.com and I saved quite a lot using them. The booking wasn%26#39;t instantaneous, I had to wait a few days for confirmation of my booking and then I had to prepay and present the voucher when I arrived.
