Le Parc or Sunset Plaza

Can the LA experts please help. We are about to book our accommodation in West Hollywood for next year. We are a family of five with three kids aged 14, 18 and 21.

Which of these hotels would suit us best in your opinion. We won%26#39;t have a car and will rely on taxis and public transport. We are staying for four nights and planning on visiting the usual Hollywood sites, Universal Studios, catching a taxi or bus to spend a day at Santa Monica and Venice beaches, going to Griffith Observatory and the Tar Pits. We want something walking distance to restaurants serving food suitable for families and also to bars for a glass of wine.

Help!

Le Parc or Sunset Plaza

Most hotels don%26#39;t allow 5 in a room due to local fire regulations. Le Parc has suites which may well accomodate 5. Not quite as kept-up as the Sunset Plaza but the locations of both are pretty convenient for your needs.

Le Parc or Sunset Plaza

Hi clubjeff

Don%26#39;t worry, we would be booking three rooms at the Sunset Plaza as we are well aware of the problem of five in a room. Even at Le Parc we would require two rooms, I am more interested in which is the better hotel in the best location.

Neither hotel that you have chosen has rooms that sleep 5 persons. Although Le Parc is an ';all suite'; hotel, that simply means that there is a ';bedroom area'; that is slightly elevated above the rest of the room. This area sleeps 2 persons and the rest of the room has a sofabed which sleeps 2 persons.

You%26#39;ll need to find a true ';suite hotel';. Possibilities in Hollywood are the Orchid Suites and Hollywood Celebrity hotels (which are both less desirable than the hotels you have selected).

Alternatively, Le Montrose Suite in West Hollywood has 1-bedroom suites which feature a king bed in the bedroom plus a queen bed in the ';living room'; (the area that is distinct from the bedroom). You can reserve that online. (It sleeps 4 persons). When you arrive (or you can email them with a special request), they can provide an additional ';rollaway bed'; which would go adjacent to the queen sofabed. There is an extra charge for this rollaway bed. Be sure to inquire about this.

The hotel is located just off the Sunset Strip within walking distance to clubs and restaurants although I don%26#39;t really consider the Sunset Strip as being a ';family area'; as it is primarily hotels, nightclubs and upscale restaurants. Your children are not young, however, so you should have no problem finding places to eat that are suitable. For a ';fast food'; experience on the Strip, try Carney%26#39;s -- inside an old railroad car next to the road and known for their hot dogs (although they have other %26#39;fast food items%26#39;. They are located at 8351 W. Sunset Bl. The restaurant is about 1 mile (1.6 km) east of your hotel on Sunset Bl

Acquaint yourself with the public transit website -- mta.net -- by entering your starting and ending points on the right side of the home page (follow the examples there).

The bus ride to Santa Monica is just under an hour or you can take a taxi for $60 or so, each way. (Taxi rates have just gone up).

Griffith Observatory is tough to reach via public transit except on the weekends when there is a bus that connects the observatory with the Sunset Bl / Vermont Av redline metro rail station. You can reach this station (at the corner of Sunset Bl %26amp; Vermont Av) by either taking the #2 bus eastbound on Sunset Bl (on the Sunset Strip, adjacent to Le Montrose Suite or taking the red line train ';toward Union Station'; from a station in Hollywood (like the Hollywood/Highland station that is adjacent to the famous Chinese Theater).

I now see your response regarding the occupancy limitation.

The Sunset Plaza is on the Sunset Strip in the thick of the hotels, upscale restaurants and nightclubs. Le Parc is in a residentail area about a mile (1.6 km) south of the strip. There are restaurants within walking distance of Le Parc, however on adjacent roads (La Cienega Bl, Melrose Av and Santa Monica Bl).

I%26#39;m not sure I feel strongly about either location. Le Parc is closer to the Tar Pits and Santa Monica in terms of bus routes) but further from Hollywood, Universal and Griffith Park.

Le Parc has the added advantage of being about 1/2 mile from the Beverly Center area which has (in addition to a giant shopping mall) a lot of dining options in ALL price ranges -- probably more of what you meant when you said %26#39;food suitable for families%26#39;.
