suggestions for Fishermans Wharf Dining?

Hello, i%26#39;m looking for a nice restaraunt in Fishermans Wharf area, something that says ';San Francisco'; not a chain restaruant? if it%26#39;s in the area of Fishermans Wharf that is ok too! It will be my husband and I celebrating our anniversary.

suggestions for Fishermans Wharf Dining?

A restaurant om Fisherman%26#39;s Wharf which even the locals like is Scoma%26#39;s. (Many find the restaurants there to be overpriced and with lower quality than in other parts of the city.)

We ate there a few months ago when crab was in season and had a wonderful roasted garlic crab.

If you really want something that says ';San Francisco'; you%26#39;ll look elsewhere than Fisherman%26#39;s Wharf. It%26#39;s just so touristy that very few locals ever venture that way.

As Puter mentioned, there is Scoma%26#39;s but it%26#39;s so very overpriced and underwelming from a food perspective.

You don%26#39;t say how soon you%26#39;ll be in town but you did indicate that it%26#39;s a special day ... my suggestions:

Gary Danko (certainly one of the best in the city and, actually, just a block up from Ghiradelli Square)

Aqua (seafood Union Sq area)

Michael Minna in the St. Francis Hotel

Jardinere at Civic Center

Reservations required at all of these ... www.opentable.com can assist.

Oops ... Aqua is in the Financial District ... there is also Farralon for seafood in the Union Sq area.

Hi Snoopy,

Locals tend to bag the Wharf and it%26#39;s restaurants etc with terms like it%26#39;s ';too touristy'; but I think they forget sometimes they are talking to a tourist and as the Wharf and Pier 39 is the most visited attraction in town , that is where tourists go______and dine.

Are restaurants elsewhere better______yes.

Will you need a second mortgage to pay for a meal at the Wharf_____no.

You have been given some to choose from and I don%26#39;t know your budget but the City is full of great restaurants. Let us know some more info like food preferences and perhaps budget and you will get lots more suggestions.

Back to your original question_____';something that says San Francisco';.

Well, you can%26#39;t get much more San Francisco that Scoma%26#39;s. The Scoma brothers began back in the 60%26#39;s and have turned a small cafe into one of the USA%26#39;s highest grossing restaurants and still run by the family.

Another that comes to mind is Alioto%26#39;s , one of the oldest restaurants in town and still run by the Alioto family.

Both these places have a long San Francisco/ Italian heritage.

www.aliotos.com

Oh, and they both have great views particularly Alioto%26#39;s.

Hope this helps.
