san francisco hotels....help needed!

ok so im going to SF on my own (from ireland), my original plan was to stay in the chancellor hotel on union square, but i want to stay for 8 or 9 nights..and that brings me to over 鈧?200 (i think roughly $1500) and theres no way i can justify spending all that on accomdation..despite the great reviews/helpful manager..im still a poor college student and i want to keep this as low-cost as possible.

so can anyone recommend places i can stay for 8-9 nights for a bit less than the price above? id like to stay on union sqaure but if the hotel is near the area and is safe then i dont mind. i would also prefer breakfast to be included with the room (even if its only something like a scone and juice or whatever..im not a big eater first thing anyways)

i dont really have any other preferences...but a big bathroom would be nice.

thanks so much

thank you i will look those up, is lombard street safe?

Lombard St. is very safe. One block north is Chestnut which is the neighborhood street for the Marina. Three blocks south is Union street in Cow Hollow. Both have shops and restaurants.

Running along Chestnut is the #30 Stockton bus which will run you past Ghiradelli Square, near Fisherman%26#39;s Wharf, through North Beach and Chinatown and past Union Square.

You%26#39;ll want to look into getting a Muni Pass.

You might also want to check out the San Remo Hotel. It gets good reviews on TA and although it%26#39;s a shared bath situation no one seems to mind that. www.sanremohotel.com It is located in North Beach and good walking distance to many things.

Yes, the San Remo used to be a great idea, located in North Beach. But a major restaurant (can%26#39;t remember which one) has located there and my daughter, who was escorting a group of byclists a few months ago said they couldn%26#39;t sleep because of the noise.

I still think you would be better off at the Chancellor and am not sure that you will find a decent hotel at a better rate. That is quite reasonable for San Francisco.

The restaurant on the street floor of the San Remo is Fior D%26#39;Italia (one of the oldest in SF although not in its original location). Yes, some of the reviews of the San Remo do mention noise (although I%26#39;ve never thought of Fior as a rowdy restaurant) but if IP is concerned about cost the SR starts at $75. Over a period of 9 days that%26#39;s a significant savings.

I agree that the Chancellor is probably the best choice for its price but a savings of $50 a night has to be considered.

Perhaps the cyclists were early to bed types? Or some special party? After all, the restaurant would be dead by 10 and the bar would close at 2am. And I would think this noisy night had to be a Friday or Saturday?

yeah i agree the chancellor rates are amazing, but its still a lot for me to pay alone (i cant convince anyone to come with me to share a room) and i will need money for so many other things i dont want to blow it all on accomodation :[

No, the cyclists were not eary to bed types. My daughter was very specific about the noise.
