Hi everyone.

My wife and I are planning a trip to California Aug/Sep 09 taking one 15 year old. We were thinking LA and SF. We have friends near Santa Barbara who we can stay with for a week but are stuck for where to stay in the other locations. Can anyone help with where and where not to stay. Budget round about $800 per place for 4/5 nights. I am getting on so no rowdyness thanks.

$800 is not to much for the Los Angeles area, the Best Western Sunset Plaza in West Hollywood is in a fun area and centrally located

If you want to be closer to the action aka touristy sights in Hollywood, look into either the Celebrity or Orchid Hotels

Both of these get great reviews on tripadvisor and are middle range properties, not to fancy but clean and safe
