We land at LAX at 12:10 PM on Friday, 10/31. We are staying in Santa Monica near the promenade. Will it be possible to pick up our rental car, drive to our rental condo, grab lunch and get to Warner Brothers for the 4PM studio tour? We are leaving LA mid-day the following Monday so this is our only real opportunity to do a studio tour. This will be my first trip to LA...should I try to squeeze in the tour or skip it, considering we only have 72 hours in town? I was really hoping to do a tour, but it seems like it will eat up our entire first day in town. Any thoughts/suggestions are appreciated!
Friday WB studio tour -- is this doable? It is duable, Warner Brothers Tours depart every 20 minutes and it probably will take you 45 min to an hour to get from santa monica to wb. If your plane does not arrive late and you grab some quick fast food on your way to the studios, you can do it
Friday WB studio tour -- is this doable? The studio is pretty much closing down on a Friday at that hour so you won%26#39;t see much ';action';. Probably better to do a few hours at Universal on Sat or Sun......you don%26#39;t have to spend hours doing the rides and attractions there...just the backlot tram tour, the Lucille Ball museum, a few other interesting bits. Also traffic from SM will be much lighter on Sat%26amp;Sun mornings , so if I were you I%26#39;d plan on 10am to 2:30pm at Universal on one of those days.
On your arrival day stick closer to the west side for your afternoon %26amp; evening attractions, avoid spending 3 hours of your first day in traffic. Getty Center is open late on Fridays so afternoon at Santa Monica beach followed by dinner at the Getty Center and a tour of the museum would be easy. Then you could easily see the Sunset Strip or Westwood district later in the evening, though you may be a bit jet-lagged and ready for bed by 11pm.
It will take you 90 minutes to get out of the airport....its a slow run for luggage and car rentals...so by then its 1:30. You are on a Friday and the traffic is super sluggish. I would suggest minimum 90 minutes from LAX to Warner Brothers (note - if there was no traffic, it would take 40 minutes.) As such, if you get off the plane at 12:10 and go direct you would be there by: 3:00.
I am a little bit concern about the date - 10/31 is Halloween. This means more intense traffic mid afternoon as parents and others try to get home to take their kids out. Also, Halloween parties for adults will also be going on.
However, if you%26#39;re willing to check in later....
you will have time to include this....
Pick up the car....Drive to the Warner Brother Studio area....have lunch...take the tour...
I would not worry if they are taping or not...we took it on a summer morning and it was somewhat slow there, but still LOTS and LOTS of fun.
If this is something you want to do (not sure of the other items on your list), this is a great way to see a studio and learn more about Hollywood. Fun times. Enjoy.
A couple of things....
1. I%26#39;m not sure why you are bothering to drive to Santa Monica before WB. You can check in later. I would drive directly to WB from LAX. You can eat near the studios and take an earlier tour. Afterward, drive into nearby Hollywood (a 10-minute drive when there is no traffic but closer to 30 minutes on a Friday afternoon) and do the %26#39;tourist thing%26#39;. Maybe stay for dinner, drinks, nightlife.
2. Have you considered flying into Bob Hope Airport (airport code BUR) in Burbank (less than 10 minute%26#39;s drive from WB? Southwest has flights out of Midway to BUR.
