Beach close to Anaheim?

Is there a good beach close to Anaheim? How long of a drive? We will have a few hours to spare and wouldn%26#39;t mind hitting up a beach, especially since we%26#39;re landlocked in the praries.

Thanks in advance!

Beach close to Anaheim?

Probably the closest beach is Newport Beach, about 17 miles by freeway (shorter by surface street). Allow at least a half hour depending on time of day due to traffic.

Huntington Beach is also relatively close and has a nice pier.

Here%26#39;s a Google map to give you an idea.

Huntington Beach and Newport are both nice suggestions, there is also Laguna Beach which has several very scenic beaches, great restaurants and art galleries. Have fun! :)

You have a few choices. What are you looking for, besides to see the ocean? Are there kids in your party and what ages?

Some close choices:

Newport Beach

Balboa Pier Beach

(The two above are along the coast of the Pacific and also have a bayside. So lots of water. Balboa has a ';fun zone'; and harbor cruises.)

Corona Del Mar (along the coast and at the mouth of Newport Bay)

Huntington Beach (long stretch of coastline, pier, and an interesting street scene with restaurants)

Laguna (miles of stunning beach, some with cliffs - Mediterrian look)

Thanks for the suggestions!

We%26#39;re a early/mid 20%26#39;s couple with no kids and prefer to be around as little kids as possible (especially after going to Disneyland!), some places to eat close by would be nice too.

How far away are those beaches from Pomona?

Texas,

Here is an example. I went to Google Maps to get directions. I used Cal Poly University in Pomona as a landmark to start from and Newport Pier as a land mark to end at. I%26#39;m thinking that Newport is sort of in the middle of the beaches we are listing here. It looks like it can take an hour to get there in traffic.

Laura,

Then I would recommend either Laguna or Huntington, but preferably Laguna because it is definitely romantic and has some nice restaurants. It has really unforgetable beauty. Laguna is the beach city that is the furthest south of all the ones we%26#39;ve listed, but still pretty easy to get to.

Here is another way to look at the beaches.

Huntington Beach - Surfer Beach, lots of surfer and Beeach Volleyball tournaments are held at ';Surf City';, lots of shops and bars in the area, kick back, relaxed.

Newport Beach/Balboa Beach - more a family area, yes some upscale stuff, but basically a casual family setting, especially the Balboa Pier area.

Laguna Beach - upscale, ';Artsy'; feel to the place, lots of Art Galleries, not really a place for kids.

Would the traffic be bad on a Saturday evening?

Texas,

Typically, freeway traffic is not bad on Saturday evenings.
