Luxury Resort Near La Jolla for 10th Anniversary?

We are looking for a really lovely place to stay to celebrate our 10th anniversary, and first vacation without out children. I have heard that a new place opened in the hills near La Jolla? Does anybody know of this place? We don%26#39;t want to be in a big City, we spent time in Tokyo this year, and I am citied out.

We tried the Ritz in Laguna, but it was sold out, and the Four Seasons near Carlsbad sounds like a family resort?

Help? Thoughts? Suggestions? Recommendations?

San Diego doesn%26#39;t seem big city to me, and definitly not on the scale of Tokyo.

The Four Seasons Aviara is very nice. Does seem to promote the family friendly aspect, probably to try and capture some of the Legoland visitors since it%26#39;s in the area, but it is a very beautiful property and when I%26#39;ve been there for dinner I don%26#39;t recall seeing any kids at least no screaming meemies. The have a familypool and an adult only pool. Compared to other hotels and resorts it%26#39;s a little off the beaten path and you%26#39;ll need a car if you want to venture out for good restaurants, shopping and the beaches. If you golf it will be perfect for you and if you%26#39;re looking for a place you don%26#39;t want to leave the grounds then you should be happy here too.

For in the hills near La Jolla you might be talking about the Lodge at Torrey Pines, close to the Torrey Pines golf course. It%26#39;s not downtown La Jolla, but a much easier drive to that area, the beaches and it%26#39;s more centrally located to everything San Diego has to offer. Some of the reviews complain about it being dark, but it%26#39;s beautiful Craftsman architecture and that is to be expected with that style.

The Grand Del Mar is the newest resort and I don%26#39;t know much about if other than what it looks like and where it%26#39;s located. I know someone who is staying there in about a week so I%26#39;ll know more tne, They%26#39;re coming for a work related event.

If you were thinking of the Ritz in laguna Niguel you might want to look at the St Regis Monarch Beach, the Fairmont in Newport Beach or consider Santa Barbara and look at San Ysidro Ranch, the 4 Seasons Biltmore, the Bacara Resort.

Not really sure what you%26#39;re looking for, but those are some ';luxury'; properties. If you provide a little more info on what you%26#39;re looking for, priorities, activities, pampering, golf, beach, tennis spa, etc we may be able to narrow it down further. Please keep us posted on what you find.

How about the Hotel Del Coronado? Although you can see San Diego from there, it has a small town/island resort feeling. It is definitely a romantic getaway.

Elle sounds like the OP isn%26#39;t looking for a family resort and the Del is overrun with kids and tourists.

The funny thing is that usually we are killing ourselves to find a family friendly place, and for the fist time in 7 years, we are looking for somewhere that isn%26#39;t! Maybe we should go somewhere else and come to San Diego with the kids another time!!! But where do you go in the U.S. in October????? Must Be Crazy!

I can think of several places in the US to go in Oct, but they involve fall foilage and chilly weather something you already have! You can have your luxury celebration here; there is so much to do and see that does not involve kids and amusement parks.

For what you%26#39;re looking for, if I didn%26#39;t live here %26amp; was willing to spend the $$$$, I%26#39;d choose the Lodge at Torrey Pines in a heartbeat!

I would look at the Lodge at Torry Pines, The La Jolla Shores Hotel %26amp; the La Valencia. Each one has advantages over the other.

Have you tried The Montage in Laguna Beach? It%26#39;s an amazing property and pure luxury! We also loved the Del Coronado when we were there celebrating our 25th anniversary. :)

According to a recent article the Auberge Del Mar has been recently renovated and Del Mar is certainly a small town. (Its just down the hill from Torrey Pines.)

Yes, I just got a brochure from the L%26#39;Auberge Del Mar Resort and Spa. They had a complete makeover that includes luxury amenities. I haven%26#39;t been there, but this may be what you are looking for. I doubt you%26#39;ll find the pitter patter of too many little feet : )
