This review is for the annual Oktoberfest that is held in September thru October each year at Alpine Village. It is not a review of Alpine Village Restaurant. Based on AOL%26#39;s 2006 review of the best Oktoberfests in America -They listed Alpine Village in Torrance, CA. My friends and I decided to check it out. Wow - what a total disappointment. This is held in a Parking lot next to Alpine Village inside a large tent. The ambience is dark, cavernous and boring. Absolutely No greenery, No decorations at all except for a stage with an Oom Pa Pah band and a few flags behind them. Lots of benches and tables - which are too close together. There is a small cafeteria style restaurant which has food. The food is adequate but it’s not the same quality as the restaurant at Alpine Village – this is very basic fare. If you want good authentic German food - you won%26#39;t find it at the Oktoberfest tent. Additionally there are no Beer Maidens serving Beers in steins as in most Oktoberfests. You have to go to one of the bar counters and order your beer which comes in a styrofoam cup! There are only 2 choices of beer - Bud or their own brew. Folks - this is Oktoberfest and Beer is an important part - don%26#39;t just serve 2 types of beer!!! Also - If you want this in a Beer stein - you have to pay $10.00 for that (which of course is yours to keep) Cash only too. This is an Oktoberfest for rowdy people that want to sit in a place - any place - don%26#39;t care how it looks - and just drink beer. If you want to drink with the beautiful people you won%26#39;t find that here either - if you catch my meaning.
I guess I%26#39;m spoiled because I%26#39;ve been to Oktoberfest in Bavaria. If you expect anything like that - you won%26#39;t find it here. Do yourself a favor and find another Oktoberfest besides this one. No Ambience at all -just a place to sit and get drunk.
Oktoberfest at Alpine Village
everything you said is true...but i think what happened was that the outdoor facility is not finished. i am wondering if there was a problem with permits that they didn%26#39;t get before constructing it. so far they are losing a lot of money.
the prices for the tiny glasses filled with ice and a little soda are ridiculous, as well as beer prices.
i wont go to that dungeon (like you, not reviewing the restaurant), it%26#39;s not at all what oktoberfest looks like...i am austrian.
