Hi,
We are planning a week long trip to San Diego in march with 3 kids, ages 6, 4 and 1. I am looking for some advice about what part of town to stay in. I would like to be near or on a beach, but still have easy access to Balboa park and other attractions, and even a few casual restaurants within walking distance. What beach is best for little ones to play at? I know it may be cool at the beach, but the kids will still enjoy playing in the sand, even if we can%26#39;t swim. I am considering various hotels or maybe a vacation rental for the week, but just feel confused about which parts of town I should really be looking in.
Also, we don%26#39;t mind some clouds and cool weather, but how much rain might we get in March?
Thanks!
Jen
Where to stay with kids in March? Rain?
Coronado, Pacific Beach, and La Jolla are some of the popular beach areas in SD.
Capri by the Sea in north Pacific Beach is a popular rental proberty steps away from the beach.
It is sunny 8 out of 10 days in SD. It only rains about 6-10 days a year here.
Where to stay with kids in March? Rain?
My mother lives in Solana Beach (N. SD County)and our joke is that, when it does rain in SD, it%26#39;s always at night. I wouldn%26#39;t worry about rain spoiling any plans you might make.
Balboa Park isn%26#39;t really near the beach but previous poster had good suggestions. There are also self catering type rentals available in Del Mar and north.
Hi, I would look into the Hotel Del Coronado, a great place for kids, they have children%26#39;s programs here, also. It is right on the beach, there are restaurants at the resort and Miguel%26#39;s Cocina is right across the street, a great place for Mexican food. The Rhinoceros Cafe is also walking distance, a nice place to get sandwiches and soup. Have fun! :)
Thanks for all the great suggestions! From what I can tell, it would be pretty easy to get from Cornado to other attractions. Is that true? Now just to choose....
Thank you!
Yes, Coronado is only across the harbor from many of the attractions.
I would pick La Jolla
1. La Jolla Cove Suites
2. Best Western Inn by the Sea
3. Empress Hotel of La Jolla
but you need to be careful as many hotels that are not in La Jolla use the name ';La Jolla'; in their name.
Your best option in La Jolla is probably La Jolla Cove Suites
But you should also look at Best Western Inn by the Sea and Empress Hotel of La Jolla
You can find the TripAdvisor reviews by clicking on the highlighted hotel name above.
Hope this is helpful
There are many advantages to staying in the Village of La Jolla. The La Jolla Cove Beach is FANTASTIC and there is a large grassy park just across from La Jolla Cove Suites (the other 2 hotels are very near)
IF you select La Jolla....look for a forum post about affordable restaurants in La Jolla
I love La Jolla by the way.....Coronado is nice also (I mostly used Coronado on my last trip / Aug 2008...as I stayed downtown and it was closer with easier parking)
In the last 10 years or so...I think I%26#39;ve been to San Diego in mid/late March 3 or 4 times.
It can be cold and rainy or it can be warm and sunny. You%26#39;re not going to know until you are there. I don%26#39;t remember an entire stay as being cold and rainy...but I can remmber an entire stay that was warm and sunny. It will get quite cool (cold) at night.
