Headed to Tahoe in January

There%26#39;ll be six of us guys going to Tahoe in January and was just starting to plan it out. Any tips on lodging? Not sure if we should get hotel rooms or rent a cabin or something. Prefer to stay somewhere where we can hit the casinos, go out, etc.

Is January still kind of iffy as to whether they%26#39;ll be enough snow for the ski runs to be open?

Headed to Tahoe in January

January is a great month for skiing in TAhoe. There is usually plenty of snow for all the runs to be open.

There are two Marriott properties that reside on either side of the Heavenly gondola. In addition to being nicely located for skiing, they are within a very short walk to stateline where the casinos are located. There is plenty of shopping and dining in teh area so you%26#39;d not have to take out your wehicle in case teh weather is iffy. There is also a shuttle system if you wanted to venture a bit further.

The Marriott Timber Lodge is the typical timeshare/interval ownershiip property. You%26#39;d be able to get a unit to accomodate your group and have kitchen facilites and the comfort of a condo.

The Marriott Grand is a ownership property where people buy a portion of a particular unit. So a unit might be owned by 1 or 4 people. The Grand is a little more upscale than the timber lodge but they are both very nice.

Both charge for parking. Do not attepmt to park in the nearby parking lots as you will be ticketed at the first opportunity. There is a city owned aprking garage at Heavenly but is $23 per day. The Grand and Timber Lodge charge $19 for valet parking.

If you decide that those properties are out of your price range you might conisider a condo.

With 6 of you, you may want to look into renting a house. There are many vacation rentals near the casino side of town. The VRBO is one of the most popular sites, but another good local one is

www.tahoelodging.com. Many of their properties are located in %26#39;Tahoe Tyrol%26#39; which is close to Heavenly Ski Resort, and the casinos.

If you are looking to be within walking distance of skiing and casinos, then one of the Marriott properties or the casinos would probably be best. There is also an Embassy Suites right there.
