Eastern Sierra Aspen color

We hiked Friday Thursday 9/18 9/19 in Bishop Pass above Bishop and Kearsarge pass above Independence looking for some fall color, but we were maybe 10 days early. We tried early October in past years and found that we were too late and we got snowed on. The highest aspens in South Fork Bishop Creek are about half turned. Other stands to the north, like at the top of Monitor pass, are just starting to think about it. Aside from missing out on the color, the hiking was fabulous and the weather was excellent.

When I worked summers just north of Bishop we would notice that by Labor Day you could realy feel the fall coming on. It%26#39;s not like the rest of CA which has a really late fall. It%26#39;s abummer when you miss it by just a few days or a weekend.
