My wife and I wanted to drive from Los Angeles to Carmel and explore the surrounding area for this July 4th weekend. What areas has the fires restricted visitors from exploring and can you still see and smell the ash in Carmel?
Thanks
Fire Status
I can%26#39;t answer whether ash and smoke are still present in Carmel. What I gather from the posts of locals is that it changes every day due to wind shifts, etc.
Read a comment on another thread from a TA who is staying at Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur and how heavy the ash and smoke was there, but they drove a little further up the road into town and found cleaner air.
Down in San Luis Obispo, the acrid smoke from the fires in Monterey County have affected our air quality with hazy skies and the heavy scent of smoke in the air.
As for access, Big Sur is still accessible as far south as Nepenthe, but fire shifts could change accessibility at any time.
