Los Angeles Hotel

Hi Peeps,

We are coming to LA for our first time on a roadtrip and we are styaing 3 nights.

Coming up from San Diego on the first day and looking for somewhere to stay on the Universal Side of the city.

We will then the next day visit Universal Studios, and the 2nd day Six Flags (we know this is about 1 hr drive from Universal)

We then fly back EARLY morning the 3rd day, so preferably want the hotel to be nearer universal studios than six flags.

Any recommendations, want something 4* ish, good quality as we are staying 3 nights, not a motel rather a hotel.

Hilton Universal has been suggested as good, but anyone else have any suggestions? wouldn%26#39;t mind free parking if possible and free wireless but not hugeley necessary.

Universal Hilton is a terrific hotel and currently you can buy a year%26#39;s pass for two bucks more than a 1-day ticket. So if you stay up there you could visit the park easily on your first evening for a bit, as well as whenever you wanted on the next 2 days...come and go as you please. Renaissance Hollywood is another great hotel but there is still the parking charge. Best Western Sunset Plaza is just a couple miles away from the Renaissance and will give you some time in a different area...West Hollywood. Still easy to drive to Univ from here. Nice area and might save you $40 per night over the other two.

How early is your international flight out?

Los Angeles Hotel

Universal City is on top of a hill, basically isolated from the rest of the city. If you are just looking for a day at Universal/doing Citywalk at night, you will be fine. Otherwise i think the Renaissance Hollywood would be a better option as you could walk around at night and have a little fun

Six Flags is not an hour from Universal, unless there is big time travic, you can probably make it in half that time

Cheers for the advice so far...

What about driving up the coastal road from San Diego, going through all the beaches area for the 1st day......

then staying near universal that night...

then 2nd day we will go to universal for the day....evening just something close by (city walk is this near by??)

then 3rd day drive out to six flags.....

that evening just spent around locally...

4th day, the flight is actually going to be around about 6-7am....as i need to get from LA to San Fran then the SAN FRAN international is out at 11am.....

Hilton sounds like a good option, is it free parking and free wifi anyone know?

City walk is right next to universal, the coastel drive from san diego is pretty much the 5 freeway first(as there is a military base along oceanside that you can not access)

You could take teh #5 to San Clamente (follow the signs to the pier, perfect place for lunch at the fishermans restaurant, you will not regret doing so) and take the #1 along the coast to Laguna Beach, stop there and take the #1 again along the coast towards Newport Beach, maybe make a stop at Balboa Island, which is so southern california.

After Newport Beach you can just head toward the freeway as the rest of the route will be mostly inland as it winds thru long beach, which is not worth with the limited time you have

I don%26#39;t know about the wifi, but I know the parking isn%26#39;t free. I think it%26#39;s almost $20/day!

The Coast Highway from San Diego to San Clemente is really a nice drive through some neat beach towns. I always take longer than I think I will driving that road because there are so many interesting vistas and restaurants/shops that catch my eye and I stop! Then as Alex says, you would get on Interstate 5 north through the Marine base and catch the PCH in San Juan Capistrano and up to LA.

You will have a very hard time finding any 4* hotel on the west side or near Universal that does not charge for parking.

Sorry, I should have said:

Catch the PCH in San Clemente and drive up to LA.

Currently Hilton parking is $17 per day, however they offer package rates with parking and Universal tickets included. Check the rates (don%26#39;t know your dates) as sometimes special room rates plus separate park tickets and separate parking may add up to less than the package deal.

Check the TripAdvisor reviews, hard to find one not happy with this Hilton. However you%26#39;ll need to leave the hotel 5am at the very latest to catch a 7am domestic flight out of LAX. You can take the freeway at that time of morning for ease, should get you to LAX by 5:40am to return the car and 5:50am to your terminal...best case scenario. Depends on your car rental company (Avis closest) and terminal however.

From which airport in L.A. is your flight to San Francisco departing? I would suggest departing from Bob Hope in nearby (to Universal) Burbank, California. (It%26#39;s L.A.%26#39;s Gatwick airport -- small, easy to get through and southwest airlines (southwest.com) loads and unloads their airplanes via 2 doors simultaneouly at Bob Hope, making the loading process quick and easy).

thansk for the great tip!!!!

im waiting southwest sirline apri/may dates to come on board...

im presuming that airport won%26#39;t be as busy as LAX?

Im worried about delay mainly......

any idea where to get the package deals for universal etc?

im hoping to get a good package deal for six flags/sea world in san diego as well as ive seen them about..

any sggestions where to get the tickets otherwise cheap?
