My Itinerary for LA - Vegas (Baby!) - SF - LA

Hi all,

Me and my better half are going to my friends wedding in Orange County in Aug. We decided to make a holiday of it and this is what we came up with:

Fly out 7th Aug to LAX. Stay in Laguna Beach. Check out 12th and drive to LA in same day (around 280 miles so not too bad).

Leave Vegas 16th and drive to SF with overnight stay around Lee Vining/Mammoth Lakes (350 miles), then onto SF the next day (250 miles).

Leave San Fran on 21st and drive Route 1 back to LA to arrive the next day. Overnight stop to be decided.

Can anyone recommend hotels in LA? Gonna try the Nob Hill Motor Inn in SF. Does this sound about right to anyone who%26#39;s done it?

I%26#39;m also having a nightmare with car rentals but think I%26#39;m gonna go midrange or up (Dollar, Alamo, Thrifty).

Can anyone offer any advice?

Thanks

Bear in mind that it will be REALLY hot as you hit the desert on the way to Las Vegas so be sure to carry plenty of water just in case.

I%26#39;m not too familiar with the route you%26#39;d take from LV towards SF but I don%26#39;t think there%26#39;s a lot there, so make sure you have booked a place to stay.

I hope I understand correctly that you will be stopping overnight between SF and LA? Cambria is probably the nicest stopover but Morro Bay and Pismo Beach are okay. Again, BOOK NOW. If you have problems finding a place, San Luis Obispo is a little inland but a nice town.

You%26#39;re going to be doing a ton of driving but at least it isn%26#39;t every day. Have you considered a flight from LA-LV and LV-SF? Whatever, enjoy your visit. Laguna is really nice.

I wonder if maybe you don%26#39;t have a reservation in Laguna, yet. i hope you have your hotel there booked.

What is your budget in LA per night?

What do you mean that Laguna to LA is 280 miles? It%26#39;s not. It%26#39;s about an hour, but be sure to avoid rush hour traffic, leave Laguna on a weekday after 10:30, before 1PM. Are you driving LAguna to Vegas? Same thing, make the drive after traffic.

what%26#39;s a nightmare with the car rental? Is it because everything is booked? It%26#39;s late to be organizing an August trip in California, the #1 destination in August.

Highway 1 - wait to see what happens with the fires, before booking.

Hi,

thanks for your replies.

My mistake - I meant LA to Vegas, was 280 miles. Not LA to Laguna. Sorry, so many things being planned and my head%26#39;s all over the place!

Car rental sorted. hotel%26#39;s getting sorted as I type this....the only one really to sort it the Laguna Beach one. Which is probably gonna be the hardest. The wedding I%26#39;m going to is at Dana Point, so looking at places around there.

Thanks again

Jon
