Las Vegas to Lone Pine

How long would it take to drive from Las Vegas to Lone Pine. Would we have time to sightsee in DV.

Many thanks.

Las Vegas to Lone Pine

The actual driving time (direct, with no sightseeing side trips) is about 240 mi/380-390 km. I%26#39;m usually hesitant to give time frame because everyone%26#39;s travel style is different.

You HAVE to explore DV. If you don%26#39;t sightsee, you may as well just teleport yourself in your sleep :) . The most direct route as well as the scenic one takes you from LV to Pahrump, Death Valley Junction, and Furnace Creek. On the way there, you could see Dante%26#39;s View and Zabriskie Point, two of the most spectacular panoramic views in the park.

A must-do side trip is down Badwater Road to Badwater (lowest point in the Americas) and back up--round trip about 25 mi/40 km. You%26#39;ll see Devil%26#39;s Golf Course, Badwater, Artist%26#39;s Palette, and Golden Canyon. You can go to the park visitor center either before or after this loop trip; before would be good so you get a better idea what you are seeing.

Near the visitor center is Furnace Creek resort, which has all the needed visitor services. Farther along, you%26#39;ll see the Devil%26#39;s Cornfield, Sand Dunes, and Mosaic Canyon. Stove Pipe Wells Village resort is also on this leg of the trip.

Golden Canyon and Mosaic Canyon are wonderful hikes, where you can go even a short to moderate distance and see beautiful colors and rock formations.

To get the most from DV, it%26#39;s best if you can spend a night. Your exploring would be more leisurely, and you would enjoy tranquility, natural surroundings, chances to see wildlife, and dark stargazing. Lone Pine is also a nice place to stay, but keep in mind that it%26#39;s a town, so you won%26#39;t have the total desert experience.
